Ugh...

Mike Nolen, Backcountry
Ranger for the US Forest Service, Deborah

the backcountry for free, and Nick Grogan,

Shane, as Exalted Grand Pooba combines
silliness and humour in recognizing important leaders of the
High Sierra Volunteer Trail Crew. Borrowing from midieval
times, Shane decides to "coronate" the various folks upon whom
he relies so much.
The goofy costume was made by his wife
Julie.

And, of course, the kids had to get in on

Brush team that cleared an almost
impassable Rancheria Trail above Wishon Lake.
The kids from Madera High School are
included in this shot; they worked like Roman slaves and had a
great time.

Where's the trail? That was our question
when we began work. This is a beautiful trail with great views
from it's beginning. It's a shame to see it in such a poor
state. Now, however, it's a great trail with plenty of
room.

Progess being made clearing
brush.

And believe it or not, here's Lea,
replete with broken arm working along side the group doing
what she can.

As luck would have it Norm brought his
satellite dish, where we had electricity and we watched the
Fresno State Bulldogs in their opener, lose to
Wisconson.
