Photos of Edison Lake
and surrounding areas.
June 5 - 8, 2002 Home More We finished the bear box installation in Vermilion Campground incuding boxes in all the campsites that rim Edison Lake. (We found some incredible sites that were heretofore unknown to the author even after 22 years of visiting this area). Boxes are in at Jackass Meadows, Ward Lake, Sample Meadow campground, and Huntington Lake campgrounds. Work was also done on the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail) and JMT (John Muir Trail) between Edison and Florence Lake, and on the Silver Pass trail out of Edison. Photos are being added as they come in. If you have any high-quality digital or nice prints, send me some and I'll give consideration to putting them up. Be aware, we are endeavoring to raise the quality of the photos on the site, and we will be kind of picky about your technical quality. Having said that, don't pre-judge yourself, because much can be done with Photoshop if the subject is interesting. Just send them to Phil Hawkins, here at tarheel@sierratel.com Thanks! Shane; "Mr. Chicken". Special Offer: For a limited time only, a FREE hunk of barbecued chicken
with the purchase of a stove! (Private joke; only those who were there will understand) Photos

Unloading a bear box off the Edison ferry. Thanks to those folks at Vermilion Resort who donated the time of the ferry operator to transport the bear boxes to various camp sites scattered around the rim of Edison Lake. John Glenn, Marshall Allington and Karl Kramer

The bear boxes sometimes had to be carried considerable distances to get them to the camp sites. Marshall and John

Karl checks final installation details, or he's camera shy, I can't tell which... or... well, never mind.

This is some of what awaited the backcountry Trail Crew.

After cutting the log (see above) the section is rolled out of the way...

Trail Crew team waiting for a bus... Seriously, many of the sawed-out sections are installed along the trail as backpackers rests, as is demonstrated here. Tom Ducksbury, Carolyn Ordway and Cary Legare.

Everyone got in on the act. Shannon Adams puts her back into it!

It is a shame that some people haven't learned to appreciate the wilderness. Anna-Marie of Monterey is in an obvious state of extreme anxiety and distress. Sunday morning at Edison will do that to you. So that you don't get the wrong idea, Anna Marie toiled endlessly the previous two days working her fingers to the bone installing bear boxes in Jackass Meadow campground. She has earned this relaxation. more photos on Page 2... Go Here
